Gatsby Inspired…Part Deux

February 27, 2012

Just as in part one of this series ode to The Great Gatsby, women’s style is always at its epitome in the city that never sleeps. Aimee challenges the traditional cocktail dress with this one piece, a show of elegance that makes for a striking presence.

Gatsby Inspired… Part 1

February 24, 2012

In a town that inspires style, the ambience of the Grand Central Station’s architectural stature is no different in its influence to demand a rakish allegiance of its patrons. Here, a “cut to fit” suit with a shirt and knot of the tie to match, and the subtle touches of a pocket square and parted hair are reminiscent of a classic look that has inspirations from one of my favorite fictional characters, Jay Gatsby, of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s “The Great Gatsby.” In similar fashion to 1974 classic, all the pieces of this style pic are designed by Ralph Lauren (the wardrobe in this movie was all designed by RL). See more Gatsby inspired fashion in the coming posts.

Gators, jeans and beans… Oh my!

February 21, 2012

Mainers, such as Dave and yours truly, know one standard to wear during the cold months of winter… Bean Boots. With an unconventional vintage, “neon” pink Lacoste polo, snagged from his dad’s closet, Dave is well equipped for a modern look that takes into account his rustic pedigree in rural Maine.

The Wheaton Way

February 11, 2012

It only makes sense that Preplee and Ms. Couture went to one of the preppiest colleges in the country, Wheaton College. Read the full story at the Huffington Post, and we will provide many more posts supporting “our” culture and aesthetic.

Company Spotlight and Product Review: Salence

February 3, 2012

Chaotic is a word commonly used to describe New York City. The unexpected waylays of rain, snow and wind that may occur at any waking moment only adds to the everyday stress of the daily grind. Salence, a 2011 men’s outerwear start-up, can assuage the weather’s unpredictability. Their 2012 collection allows for comfort and protection no matter the climate or the cultural ambience. May it be for a weekend stroll on a country trail or making one’s way through the maze of intersections across Madison Ave, the jackets are technically engineered for the elements, while maintaining a breathable, comfortable feel. An amalgamation of LL Bean meets J. Crew– Salence’s jackets are aesthetically modern–fostering the capabilities, strength and ingenuity with which one seeks to “shelter from the storm.”

The Caisson, pictured above, is 100% waterproof. Its poly/wool fabric and quilted insulation promises to keep one warm and dry on any given cold, wet day. The thigh length pea coat can be worn buttoned as a double breasted coat or transformed to a center front zip coat. Small intricacies of leather cuffs and trim complement the more elaborate phone, tablet and wallet compartments concealed within the jacket’s sleeves and inner lining. If one forgets an umbrella, no matter, the insulated hood will protect from even the heaviest rain shower. Salence has engineered the jacket for the modern man, preparing him for any obstacle he may encounter in his convoluted day.
